There exists four types of caribou in Canada, namely the Peary Caribou, Woodland Caribou, Barren-ground Caribou and Grant’s Caribou.
The Peary Caribou is smaller and the lightest and not as well known as the other two. They live on the Canadian Arctic Archipelago Islands with limited borders for habitat.
The Barren-ground Caribou is somewhat larger than the Peary Caribou with a darker appearance. They live anywhere from Alaska to Baffin Island. They have the highest population. You may spot herds of them
up to hundreds of thousands.
The Woodland Caribou is the largest and sports the darkest hair. They can be spotted anywhere from British Columbia to Newfoundland. They don’t migrate but may change their altitudes for survival during different seasons if living in mountainous regions.
