BONSAI TREES

bonsai-trees.jpgBonsai trees are very intriguing to me. I’m amazed at how such a tiny tree can be so old and cute =)
Since I’m into combating global warming, one of the best ways is to plant anything green.
With my love of bonsai trees I thought, hey, why not share the word. Sure, bonsai trees are tiny in comparison to their earth planted outdoor counterparts, but every little bit helps.
Here are some quick tips…

on growing bonsai trees:
1) No need to mist - just place the tree on a pan with decorative stones and water in it to keep the air humid around the tree. Replace the water when it runs out.
2) How often to water the bonsai tree - keep the soil moist, but have a drain hole. The roots will rot otherwise. Frequent watering is necessary since they don’t live in much soil, so it dries out quickly.
3) What kind of soil is best for the bonsai tree: In shortest words, bonsai soil. Other mixes may hold water too long and rot the roots. Some may be full of clay and squeeze the roots. Others may not hold enough water. Look for the tropical or sub-tropical mix, or a conifer mix.
4) Will I ever be required to re-pot my bonsai tree: Pretty much every 3-5 years.
5) What amount of sunlight is good for growing bonsai trees: sunlight is good, the more the better. Unless you’re into using artificial light, don’t bother if all you have is a north window. Southern, west and east exposures are ideal.

You can get very creative growing bonsai trees. You can “bend” them every which way, with bends taking about 6mths - 1yr. For a more in depth FAQ sheet and just a superb spot for bonsai trees I’m including the ad below where I’d found mine a few years back. In all honesty, they are quite an easy tree to grow given the right attention they deserve.
