TELSA ELECTRIC CAR
May 10th, 2007 by admin
WOW! Finally! Someone is listening. An electric car! Namely the Telsa Electric Car. It’s sexy, fast, sleek, quiet and emits zero emissions. This ‘guy’ can climb 0-60mph in 4 seconds. Top speed is clocked at 130mph. Don’t remember any American speed limits posted that high, so that should do just fine.
The battery charges in 3 hours for a 250 mile usage - less for heavy-leaded foots mind you. Just plug the Telsa electric car into any electrical outlet - pretty darn convenient. On 1 megawatt hour of electricity, the electric car will go for 4,900 miles compared to 1,800 miles for the hydrogen-powered car in a fuel cell.
Their ’secret’ is in the use of…
lithium ion cells, commodity batteries commonly used in laptops. The Telsa electric car uses many small cells. It’s battery pack is 11 individual sheets of 621 cells. It weighs in at 950 lbs. Gotta hear what they have to say about where the batteries will go once they’ve reached their life-time warranty of 100,000 mile coverage. For now, it’s a “small issue” compared to what we’re dealing with now in my humble opinion.
Other features of the Telsa electric car: It’s a rear-wheel drive, 2 seater sports vehicle, weighing in at about 2,600 lbs. Has a carbon fiber body - don’t think that’ll rust any time soon. Utilizes a bonded aluminum chassis. Only all LED lighting, with a 12-volt electronic system. Selling price: $92,000. 180 of them are already sold.
Standard tests are still being performed re: crashes, cold weather, durability and road handling tests. Already, it’s been tested “to death” on European streets (you know, those bumpy cobblestones, can’t drink your coffee kindof roads) and in snowy conditions in Sweden. In cold and inclement weather, the comfort systems - heating, air condition and ventilation still keeps a constant temperature inside the battery pack.
For the record: Tesla will be opening a factory in Albuquerque, N.M. This plant will produce the “next-generation” vehicle. A five-seat, electric-powered sedan. Great for families. Look for it’s name in late 2009 - “WhiteStar” Pricing will start at $50,000 and climb to $70,000 for the sporty version.
How much did I calculate I’d save on maintenance and gas in one year on our traditional gas guzzlers?
I feel like I’ve just visited my favorite retro candy store!
Hopefully my son will never have to endure the expenses and pollutants of our petro cars of today, when it’s his time to buy a vehicle for his own transportation needs.
My hats off on a bended knee to Telsa and for creating the Telsa electric car.
Peace.
