High Mercury Levels in Tuna Fish

Are you a parent? What do you think about high mercury levels in tuna fish?
I am not surprised, but I am concerned.

I was 3 months pregnant when I was told there were high mercury levels in tuna fish (some more than others). I was informed I needed to curb consumption or stop eating it altogether. So what do you do? I would stop altogether if knowing that high mercury levels in tuna fish can cause neurological, heart and brain disorders and affect the immune system.

But Health Canada has issued yet another guideline as to how much we should be eating. Currently 0.5 parts per million (ppm) for mercury in our fish is allowable….ugh. They say their testing…

each and every batch before it hits the shelves, noting that 6% of all manufactured tuna is “pulled” before it gets into consumers hands.

High mercury levels in tuna fish shouldn’t be in our vocabulary. Pretty sickening really.

Peace.

Mercury builds up in other fish aswell, such as cod and other bottom feeders like crab. Sometimes the levels in the sea can be alarming. Welcome to see our mercury concerns at www.nmf.no.
