GROWING TOMATOES IN POTS
May 21st, 2007 by admin
Growing tomatoes in pots, after a little bit of researching is proving to be an ideal situation for those with limited space and or cooler temperatures. My reasoning has been reinforced since we just got 1 1/2 inches of snow this morning and it’s May 21.
So far, we’ve covered everything up to creating the proper soil content for growing tomatoes in containers. If you want to read the whole series on growing tomatoes in pots, click on the Growing Tomatoes category.
Even though you’re growing tomatoes in pots, you still need to support them. The fruit gets to heavy and branches will break if not. You can stake tomatoes in pots, but ensure you do so before putting the soil in the pot. As the plant grows, you’ll need to…
attach the larger branches to the stake with soft thick rope (I like shoestrings or strips of old cloth). The easiest way, is to use the 3 ring cages/forms commonly found at garden centers. They are inexpensive (about a buck each) and last for years. You set them into the soil over the plant once you’ve planted it. Then drape the branches over the rings as the plant matures.
Which now brings me to our next section of growing tomatoes in pots: planting.
Peace.
