Earthday - Come and Gone
April 25th, 2007 by admin
Now that Earthday has come and gone, was there anything you managed to change, or did you make any “New Years Earthday” goals for the coming year?
Well our goal for Earthday was to change all the bulbs in our house to fluorescent bulbs. Those are the spiral light bulbs you are starting to see everywhere. They now make them…
small enough to fit into most standard lamps, wall and ceiling fixtures. Initially, the cost may seem like a lot but once you do the math, you save a bundle over the long term (which relatively speaking is short term). We look forward to a nice reduction on our electricity bills. =)
First we bought the “cool ones”. Can’t say I liked them. They changed all the colors of the paint and furniture by adding a blue tinge to everything. I’d recommend using them for the garage or outside.
Otherwise, stick with the “warm” ones inside the home if you like a closer feel to the incandescent light bulbs. I also noticed there were a selection of florescent light bulbs on sale that didn’t describe if they were “warm” or “cool”. Just for “everyday” use, so those would be a “luck of the draw” as to what you get.
It actually feels good knowing that I’m saving energy and money at the flick of switch. Another “cool” invention to help curb climate change and a great way to remind us of Earthday - everyday.
Peace.
