Still, honey bees disappearing at an alarming rate are concerning scientists, economists, farmers and communities at large.
Coined “Colony Collapse Disorder” studies are being performed to determine if parasites, pesticides, viruses or other factors are the culprit at putting us in a very sticky situation.

Bees disappearing don’t seem to just affect the US either. Germany is down from 4 million to just over 800,000 colonies.
Notably, their farmers are beginning to feel the sting. It has been commented that should the enormous rate of bees disappearing keep up, total extinction is a possibility. Bees cross pollination supports about 30%-50% of a farmers field, so that they don’t have to invest the money in their crops.

Likewise with the US. According to Bill Coleman from the Boston Museum of Science, their numbers have been volatile over the past 2 years up to 10 years. The US can lose 700,000 bee colonies in one year alone which equates to about 1/3 of the US population.

It is noted with bees disappearing at this rate, we may need to start changing our diets…

Bees are a significant pollinator and thats where their value lies. Certainly they are the maker of Winnie the Poohs favorite food: honey. They generate about $300 million annually in terms of the sale of honey, but thats not our biggest concern. They have a $15 billion a year, direct impact on the US industries. Without them crops of fruits, nuts, cattle feed, vegetables and more are at risk of not being able to keep up with our demand.

Mr Marshall, past president of the New Hampshire National Beekeepers Association mentions that scientists are looking into their demise and or disappearance all the while to try and get solid studies performed before its too late.

I was never a person who could “swat to kill” when it came to bees. I’m actually pretty frightened of them and tend to run. But my husband will swat to kill even if the little guy is just hanging about. Hopefully when he reads this article about bees disappearing, he’ll leave them alone to do their business, which really equates to our business - life.
