Al Gore - Global Warming

Last night I was fortunate enough to see Al Gore live at his presentation in Calgary. Al Gore, global warming and polite, factual, unrelenting persistence go together like peas and carrots. Ok, he can be humorous too.

I will admit, I was overdosed with the eye-popping facts pertinent to his/our cause, in fact 2.5 hours worth. I was ever so pleased to see so many dignitaries in one place, and as a mother who has reason to care for our planets future (among other reasons, but that being the #1 case) I hope they got the message loud and clear.

I’m am still so baffled to hear that some of these highly educated dignitaries just “don’t get it”, or is it the ugliness of money in their pockets that is clouding their vision? I like how Al Gore noted on “What will it take? For our children to say to us when they get a little older (the next generation) ‘Didn’t ya’ll have any facts or indications that this was happening? Didn’t someone look…

into this a little earlier?”

It’s right in front of our faces, and personally I don’t see what the big deal is on making different consumer choices and changing some habits. They are sooooooo small in comparison to what changes will be forced upon us and without choice if we don’t, and they will come. As Al noted, “the planet will be fine, it can heal, it’s us we have to worry about”.

Sure, corporations will have to absorb a lot of money - but what good is money if we don’t have a planet? Take the losses, move on and make what you have even better to make more money than you were before. It is a challenge, but it can be done.

He too mentioned a book he has written due out next month called The Assault of Reason by Al Gore. He didn’t dwell on it either. Now as I understood it, it’s about how we all are dealing with our differences on the subject. And because it’s a global issue, not just our own little communities, there are complexities involved. He mentioned a biblical verse in Isiah about getting together and talking it through with reasoning. Food for thought.

If there is plenty of supported, without a doubt, facts on one side, and a half hazard blip on the other side, what side would you reason with to go forward with?

He mentioned 3 things are the causes to our current situation on global warming:
1) Population Explosion - this is balancing out
2) Science and Technology - good if we let it, bad if we abuse it
3) Our Thinking - we must change our old ways and be open to change

So now - we have choice. Will we all exercise them or will we let ourselves be dictated to by Mother Earth like New Orleans has had to deal with?

As it was mentioned that night:
1) Become Engaged
2) Become Accountable

I don’t want to preach, I’d rather let the facts presented by Al Gore on global warming, climate change and our climate crisis speak for itself, but sometimes I’ll admit, it’s hard, very hard, not to.

Peace.
